Lack of health insurance is a major barrier to women receiving needed health care services. But even women with health insurance face many barriers to health care, and states can improve women's access to health care by improving access to specific services important to them. The status indicators in this section reflect the percentage of women who lack health insurance, the availability of health care services, and access to prenatal care and abortion services, essential services for women that are also indicative of women's access to general health care services.
